Sheds light on the little-known works of Sandrini, a composer who served as Handel's assistant. Italian composer and harpsichordist Pier Giuseppe Sandrini (1683-1748). He studied music under the tutelage of Francesco Antonio Salardi on organ and harpsichord and Angelo Predieri and Giovanni Bononcini on counterpoint, and already at age 13 played as organist at the church of San Giacomo in Bologna. Around 1716, he moved to London, where he spent ten years as Handel's assistant and harpsichordist in the orchestra of the Royal Academy of Music, which Handel directed. In 1725, he married the famous prima donna Francesca Cuzzoni (1696-1778) and became famous. Sandoni's excellent improvisational skills have been compared to Handel's, and he was also the most popular teacher in the English aristocracy.Although he was a highly acclaimed and admired composer in the Italian, German, and Austrian theaters, his works are virtually unknown today, despite their excellence. This is due to the fact that very few of them were edited and published, and many of his scores remain buried in the archives of European libraries. This album aims to honor and awaken from its long slumber the works of this almost forgotten composer Sandoni, for which Nicoletta Palacivescu has collected the preserved materials from which she has composed a one-CD program. The album includes beautiful and wonderful pieces for solo harpsichord, such as "Suites," "Ciaccona," and "Trio Sonatas." Sandoni may have written the three cantatas featured specifically for his wife on this album.
