Notos Quartett

Description:

The Notos Quartet's virtuosic performances bring back to life the Paris of the 1920's. Formed in Berlin in 2007, the Notos Quartet is a piano quartet that currently boasts a significant presence on the European chamber music scene. The Notos Quartet, named after the Greek goddess Notos (the sun goddess), has won numerous competitions and prizes, and was praised by Zubin Mehta as "a fantastic ensemble. The ECHO Klassik Newcomer's Award in 2017. As one of the few "piano quartets" in the world, the ensemble has been highly praised for its "sense of balance and ensemble playing that reveals the details of the compositions" and "profound musicality that resonates in the heart. Notos' third and latest Sony Classical album, "Paris Bar," features chamber works by Jean Francais, Alexandre Tansman, and László Leiter, three composers who lived in Paris in the 1920s, the center of the creative scene. All three works are rich in creativity, imagination, and wit.The Notos Quartet's performance with the best virtuosity seems to bring the vibrancy of Paris in the 1920s back to life in the present day. Jean Francais' work is full of originality, joy, and melodic ingenuity, reflecting the post-World War I atmosphere, and sudden changes in dynamics that mark moments of tenderness and melancholy. Tansman's work is a perfect blend of Polish and French influences, dedicated to a Belgian piano quartet that enjoyed a tenure in the late 1920s. László Leiter was one of the most important Hungarian composers, scientists, and music teachers of the first half of the 20th century. This is the world premiere recording of this piece, and the only one of Leiter's complete works with this orchestration. Sony Music
