Mozart / Goebel, Reinhard / Mozarteum Orchester
Description:
Goebel's endless intellectual curiosity has led him to explore other forms of Mozart's famous works. A "tireless seeker," conductor Reinhard Goebel has followed up his internationally acclaimed "The World of Beethoven" with a new project, "New Mozart," which seeks out unknown works and presents them anew within the context of music history. The New Mozart. With the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra as his partner, Goebel will uncover Mozart's unknown music and present it to the world along with his surrounding works in this exciting series. In the first installment, the Bavarian composer Franz Greisner (1761-1818) selected Mozart's orchestral arrangement of his famous wind serenade "Gran Partita," K. 361. This second recording in the series features world premiere recordings of two extremely rare arrangements of Mozart's clavier and chamber works for orchestra by the Viennese conductor and composer Ignatz von Seifried (1776-1841). Seifried was a composer and conductor born, raised, active, and died in Vienna. In his memoirs, he states that he studied under both Mozart and Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, and he served as music director of the Auf der Wieden Theater and Theater an der Wien in Vienna, where in 1805 he premiered an unrevised version of Beethoven's "Fidelio", In 1805, he premiered an unrevised version of Beethoven's "Fidelio. As a composer, Seifried's numerous works include overtures and incidental music for stage plays, numerous religious works, symphonies, overtures, and chamber music. The New Grove Encyclopedia of World Music states, "Although his versatility gave him a unique position in the Viennese musical world, not one of his works shows any real originality or character, It seems to have been frequently performed in those days, and the music has a very colorful, magnificent, and dramatic sound with a profound and magnificent expressive power. The "Grand Fantasy in C minor" on this album is a combination of the Fantasy in C minor and Piano Sonata No. 14 (often performed in this combination), which was arranged for orchestra in 1812.The "Grand Fantasy in F minor" is an 1814 orchestral version of the first and second movements of the Piano Quartet No. 1 and the "Fantasy for Automatic Organ". Goebel's performance approaches the piece from the angle of a large orchestral work, unlike the original piano and chamber music, transforming the orchestra with modern instruments into a transparent HIP style, full of power.
