Description:

Imposter, a solo album by Depeche Mode vocalist Dave Garn Depeche Mode vocalist/songwriter Dave Garn, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in January 2020, will release a new album with his longtime musical partner of 10 years, Soul Savers (Rich Machine), Dave Gahn and his long-time musical partners of 10 years, the Soul Savers (Rich Machine), will release a new album The album, titled "Imposter" (meaning "impostor"), consists of 12 meticulously selected songs that span genres and eras, including Neil Young, Bob Dylan, PJ Harvey, Charlie Chaplin, Cat Power, and Mark Lanegan. Dave Gahn and the Soul Savers reimagine these classic songs and take the listener on a personal journey. To call Imposter a covers album would be a misnomer. This album is the story of songs that Dave Gahn and the Soul Savers listened to, studied, absorbed, and gave new life to. Every song has deep meaning to Dave, and therefore Imposter is a reflection of Dave's life. In other words, the stories told by others are told in his own distinct voice. He says, "When you listen to other people's voices and songs, what matters is the way they sing and the way they interpret the words. It puts my mind at ease," says Dave Gahn. I relate to it and find it comforting. I'm moved by all the original performers of the songs on this album. I know we've created something special. We know we've created something special, and I hope other people can feel it too, and feel like they've been on a little journey. Especially those of us who love music and have been with it for years." The previous album by Dave Gahn and the Soul Savers, Angels & Ghosts (2015), was a transatlantic collaboration, with Dave (USA) and the Soul Savers (UK) recording in their respective locations and mixing them, so to speak. Imposter" was recorded live as a 10-piece band at the famed Shangri-La Recording Studios in Malibu, California, in November 2019. This not only allowed for a more intimate collaboration, but also allowed Dave Gahn and the Soul Savers to fully share the mood of the song and inject new spirit into the track. In an interview with podcaster and media personality Chris Black, Dave said, "It was the first time we were all in one space. There was magic happening every day in the studio. It was like, 'Coffee, in the studio, and then music.'" He said. Imposter is the band's third album, following their first release, 2012's The Light the Dead See (under the name Soul Savers featuring Dave Gahn), and 2015's acclaimed Angels & Ghosts, co-produced by Rich Machine and Dave Gahn ( under the name Dave Gahn & Soul Savers), this is their third album.
