A Schubert performance of great effect from the pursuit of lyricism. Born in Seoul, William Yong began playing piano at the age of 6. At the age of 11, he performed with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and at 13, he went to Boston, where he studied for five years before returning to Hanover to study with Bernd Goecke. After auditioning for and winning a scholarship to the famously difficult Lake Como International Academy, he studied there from 2006 to 2009, studying with Andreas Steyer and Menahem Pressler. He has performed with many musicians and is known to have further developed his musicality. He is highly regarded not only as a soloist but also as a chamber musician, and his 2016 release "Mozart with Friends" featured intimate performances with Zabine Meyer, Julia Fischer, and Nils Menkemeyer, and was awarded the 2017 ECHO Award for "Chamber Music Recording of the Year" at the 2017 ECHO Awards. In 2018, she made her solo debut for Sony Classical with the album "Schumann, Schubert, Liszt: Piano Works", which features sublime and romantic performances with a touch of "Viennese Aromaticism". This time, she takes on the challenge of performing Schubert's complete sonatas.Contrast No. 21, written in the year of Schubert's death in 1828, with the dreamy sounding No. 1 of 1815. The program order is also elaborate, with the somewhat lighter No. 13 and the unfinished D. 571 and related pieces, succeeding to No. 14, which inherits the virtuosity but also pursues introspective depth. The album also has a mellow contour with less accentuation and sharpness, and he reads the score and plays his specialty, romantic music, with elegance and excellence, without falling into mechanical coldness in these long and repetitive sonatas.
