Description:
The second exciting and groundbreaking project by German violinist Niklas Riepe, born in 1990 and a student of Zakhar Bron, is the "Goldberg Variations"! Hamburg-based violinist Niklas Riepe's 2018 release, the "Paganini Project" of arrangements by various contemporary composers, brings together different arrangements of the famous "24 Caprices," bringing together foxtrot, tango, jazz, and an overflowing In 2017, Niklas Liepe and his brothers founded the "Liepe&Co. Festival" in a steel warehouse near Hanover's South Station, pushing the boundaries of classical music. They have also performed at various music festivals and competitions, as well as with Fazil Say, András Schiff, Kremer, Bashmet, and Eschenbach. For this new album, "Goldberg Reflections," Riepe collaborated with composer Andreas N. Talcman to arrange 13 variations from Bach's famous "Goldberg Variations" for solo violin and string orchestra. In addition, an internationally renowned composer was commissioned to compose new variations based on Bach's original. The arranged version by Talcman is placed between these pieces, and the variations are programmed as a whole in the style of a Baroque-era ensemble concerto. These variations create a connection to the original, while at the same time the composition brings the "Goldberg Variations," written 280 years ago, into the present day as something new. Rolf Rudin, best known for his symphonic and chamber works for brass band, wrote music that, as the title of the piece suggests, is as if he were in dialogue with the great master Bach. American composer Sidney Corbett, originally an electric guitarist, treats "Aria" in his "Goldberg Halcynation Remix" and Andreas N. Tulkman's "Last Summer in Goldberg" offers a wonderful film sound.Wolf Kerschek treats "Aria" as a jazz medley. In "Goldberg Spielt," Moritz Eggert composes with the idea that Bach probably wrote his variations based on an anecdote that Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, whom Bach had taught the music to, had written them. He also brought the American composer and double bassist Daniel Sunday's "Four New Goldberg Variations" to life in an American musical style. It is amazing to see Bach's "Goldberg Variations" revived in such an exciting, new, and colorful way for our time. Sony Music
