Darkside, a band led by the genius Nicholas Jah, has released their latest album "Nothing" on Matador Records, their first release in four years! The band features Nicholas Jarr, one of the most important producers of the 2020's, and Dave Harrington, a multi-talented player who has worked with many New York indie bands including Arms, as well as new member Trakaca. Darkside, a band consisting of Nicholas Jarr, one of the most prominent producers of the 2020s, Dave Harrington, a multi-instrumentalist who has worked with Arms and other NY indie bands, and new member Traquael Esparza, released their long-awaited third album "Nothing" on Matador Records, their first in four years. In the making of their previous two albums, Nicholas Jah and Dave Harrington each brought various ideas and melodic fragments into the studio and shaped them, resulting in "Psychic" (2013) and "Spiral" (2021). However, the current album, "Nothing," is the result of a search for a soundscape derived from free improvisation, acoustic riffing, and electronic levitation.Another fundamental change from their first decade or so as a band was the addition of a new member, drummer and instrument designer Traquael Esparza, a longtime friend and collaborator of Jah and Harrington. The result is a hieroglyphic body of work that draws one in like a magnet. The album pushes through the preconceived notions of music with meandering guitar sounds, noises that seem to originate from extraterrestrial sources, and drums that evoke abysses.
