As part of the 40th anniversary celebrations for the legendary band the Pixies, the Pixies are releasing remastered editions of *Bossanova* and *TrompeleMonde*. Kevin Vanbergen, who has been working on the band’s audio archives—creating new Dolby Atmos mixes and handling high-resolution mastering for their catalog, including the *Live at the BBC* and *Complete B-Sides* compilations—is responsible for the remastering. A Turning Point Where Surf and Space Rock Converge The New Frontier of ’90s Alternative Pioneered by the Pixies Released in 1990 by the Pixies—one of the most influential bands to spearhead the early U.S. alternative/grunge movement—their third album, *Bossa Nova*, marked a decisive turning point that propelled the band from darlings of the indie scene to a much larger presence. By boldly incorporating the positive energy of surf rock with the desolate sounds of space rock, they expanded their experimentalism and sense of scale to unprecedented heights. Furthermore, led by the singles “Velouria” and “Dig for Fire,” the tracks on the album exquisitely blended raw energy with pop melodies, introducing the band’s appeal to a wider audience.
