Dry Cleaning

Description:

UK band Dry Cleaning's latest album from 2026!! Spanning from 80s punk to no wave. Dry Cleaning, a band carrying on the spoken word tradition and consisting of Florence Shaw (vocals), Tom Dows (guitar), Nick Buxton (drums), and Lewis Maynard (bass), releases their third album, 'Secret Love', via 4AD. Produced by Kate Le Bon, who also worked on Horse Girl's album 'Phonetics On and On', with contributions from Gila Band's Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox. 'Secret Love', arguably the culmination of Dry Cleaning's expression born from deep friendship among its members, positions the band within rock's avant-garde. Using the paranoid atmosphere of the Reagan era, reflected in early 80s American punk and hardcore, as a catalyst, it blends Keith Richards-esque dry, gritty guitar riffs, stoner rock, dystopian decadence, playful no wave, and pastoral fingerpicking.Furthermore, Florence's recitative vocals, while responding meticulously to the soundscapes woven by her bandmates, position her within the spoken word lineage stretching from Laurie Anderson to Sue Tompkins of Life Without Buildings. Following Stumpwork, Secret Love began in Peckham's rehearsal space. All four members write and perform songs in the same room, responding to each other—for Dry Cleaning, music and lyrics are inseparable, organically born as a single whole. 'Secret Love' evolved by fully utilizing the acoustic characteristics of each space: through fulfilling sessions at Jeff Tweedy's studio The Loft in Chicago, and explosive sessions at Sonic Studios in Dublin with Gila Band's Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox. It was ultimately completed with Kate Le Bon at Black Box in the Loire Valley. After meeting with several potential producers, the band chose Kate Le Bon.She is a highly regarded solo artist who has also worked on albums by artists such as Deerhunter, Devendra Banhart, Wilco, and Horse Girl. The reason lies in her candid positivity and open attitude. Kate said, "When I was in the same room with them and heard the vitality and energy flowing in that moment, I thought it was truly a one-of-a-kind expression."
