The Mohave Three: A Treasure of UK Indie Folk A miraculous project in which members of Slowdive—the legendary band synonymous with shoegaze—have embarked on a dreamy, acoustic new beginning Five highly anticipated catalog titles from 4AD have been remastered and will be reissued all at once!!!! ! *AskMeTomorrow* (October 16, 1995) *AskMeTomorrow*, an album that could easily have been Slowdive’s fourth, was released in October 1995. With a sound that feels like an acoustic deconstruction of their early recordings, it retains a dreamy and fantastical atmosphere while being repositioned within a new context through clearly intelligible lyrics and a country/folk aesthetic. Defining this worldview is the transcendent opening track, “LoveSongsontheRadio.” Rachel’s angelic vocals float in the air atop gently swaying guitars and restrained bass and drums. Since we were all recording directly to tape in a single room, there was a lot of crosstalk between the microphones, which gave everything a deep, reverberant sound. Thanks to that, the mix ended up with a really cool, dim and murky resonance. I think that resonance ultimately served as a bridge to the sound of the Slowdive era. —Neil Halstead
