It's the innocent magic of Big Thief. The latest two-disc release by US indie treasures. US indie treasures Big Thief, who have led the current trend of folk-rock on the scene and have even climbed to become a Grammy-nominated band, have released their latest 2-CD album "Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You" on the 4AD label! Produced by band member James Krivchenia, the album features 20 songs selected from four recording sessions held in upstate New York, California's Topanga Canyon, Colorado's Rocky Mountains, and Tucson, Arizona in 2020. The preceding singles "Certainty" and "Sparrow," which recorded the band's rustic charm on an 8-track tape recorder, were recorded at the New York session, while "Little Things" and "Time Escaping," which explored new frontiers of the band with master musician Sean Everett, were recorded at Topanga. and "Change," which was already a perfect rehearsal take from the Colorado session, where the band teamed up again with Dom Monks, the engineer of "UFOF" and "Two Hands". The final session in Arizona featured guest player Matt Davidson, aka Twain, a close ally of the band, who played piano, accordion, and fiddle as a fifth member of the band, concluding the five-month session with the birth of the album's title track. The coming together of songs of various styles and textures has been etched here as the quintessential two-disc masterpiece of the current band, which is like piloting a dragon when it begins to play.
