The Vienna Philharmonic performs a monumental concert that thrills Viennese audiences every year. Along with the New Year's Concert, the "Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert" is one of the Philharmonic's most famous events, and since its inception in 2004, it has become an established tradition in early summer in Vienna. The open-air concert, held at Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is free of charge and open to 100,000 music fans, and is broadcast live (or recorded) to more than 60 countries around the world. This concert is considered the most important concert for the Vienna Philharmonic not only because of the distinguished lineup of conductors, including Gergiev, Barenboim, Welser-Möst, Maazel, Eschenbach, and Mehta, but also because the pianist Lang Lang and the soprano Netrebko have also appeared. The appearance of pianist Lang Lang and soprano Netrebko also shows that this is one of the most important concerts for the Vienna Philharmonic.Sony Classical has been releasing this Summer Night Concert on CD and video software since 2013, and this year's seventh edition, 2019, marks the first time Gustavo Dudamel has taken the stage in seven years, since 2012. Dudamel and the Vienna Philharmonic have been performing and recording together since 2007, and in 2017 he made his first appearance at the New Year's Concert, becoming the youngest conductor to conduct that concert; he also conducted a Japan tour in 2014. This year's guest is Yuja Wang, who is taking the world by storm! Mozart's "Junome" conducted by Gergiev in Munich and Paris in February 2016 was his first collaboration with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and in November 2018 he will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the Palace of Versailles. Ravel's "Concerto for the Left Hand" under the direction of Welser-Möst. She is one of today's most internationally recognized stars among classical pianists. Her appearance in this concert is sure to be a big hit. The programming for this concert is the gorgeous "American Night.In addition to "Rhapsody in Blue," the program includes Bernstein's "Candide," Barber's "Adagio," and even a suite from the movie "Casablanca," all of which are unusual for the Vienna Philharmonic (all first recordings by the orchestra). Johann Strauss, a favorite of the Philharmonic, performed the glorious "Festive Waltz," and Ziehler performed the "Star-Spangled March" in honor of the United States of America, both unusual pieces. The concert will close with the fourth movement of "The New World". The standard encores (including the waltz "Viennese Temperament") will follow. Sony Music
