Description:
Philip Glass and the Renaissance intersect - the Lauten Company's grand attempt to cross the borders of time and country. The Lauten Company was founded in 1984 as a lute duo with Kachner and Hans-Werner Appel, and for more than 30 years since then, the company has been performing in a wide variety of formations with a focus on bringing the music of the past back to life in the present, unlike so-called period instrument performances. The main feature of the group's activities is that it performs in a variety of formations, incorporating a variety of soloists. For example, in their concerts, they actively perform opera arias with orchestra alone, contemporary music by Philip Glass, Piazzolla, and popular music on ancient instruments, thus breaking down the boundaries between ancient and contemporary music. This album traces the accumulation of their performance activities through recordings of baroque music. With the album "Timeless" released in 2010, he combined Tarquinio Merla (1594 or 1595-1665) and Philip Glass, and successfully won the "Ensemble of the Year" at the German "Echo Prize", "An exciting journey through time, fascinating Ideas! Here, two worlds, more than 300 years and thousands of kilometers apart, meet. It may seem like a big contrast, but you will discover many similarities" (NDR Kultur) and "a dense and fascinating listening experience" (Financial Times Germany). Also this year, two albums by the Lauten Company continued to receive high acclaim, winning the "Opus Classics Award" for "Ensemble Obie the Year. This new album, "Circle Line," is a sort of sequel to "Timeless," combining the Renaissance Guillaume Dufay with minimal music compositions, mainly by Philip Glass. It combines not only gambas, lutes, and other ancient instruments, but also saxophones and percussion. You will also be amazed at the thoughtful attempts at direct fusion, such as tracks 3 and 11, that result in brilliant music.
