Johann Adolph Hasse (1699-1783) was born into a family of musicians in a small village near Hamburg and joined the choir as a tenor singer. His first opera, "Antigonos," composed for the court opera house in Lüneburg, was highly acclaimed, and in his mid-20s he became well known mainly in the Neapolitan opera houses. He also performed at the court of Dresden, Venice, London, Vienna, and other European cities. It is said that Hasse wrote as many as 120 operas, but many of his works are rarely performed. This recording features Hasse's relatively early, secular cantatas and arias, as well as instrumental works. These works were written for small occasions with family and friends of the urban aristocracy of the time. Interspersed throughout these small orchestral works are dramatic passions and tender, sincere melodies, which were understandably the source of their popularity throughout the rest of his life.Founded in 2001, the instrumental ensemble "Les Musiques Nove" is an ensemble of original instruments that has been involved in the revival of unknown works by Caccini and Haydn, and has released three albums on the German Harmonia Mundi label. This is their second album of Hasse's works, having recorded in 2013 the Serenata "Marcantonio and Cleopatra," a career-making work premiered in 1725 and sung by Farinelli in the role of Cleopatra. The leader, Claudio Osere, is a researcher who has reorganized various scores of the period, including Vivaldi's operas, as well as the reconstruction of Salieri's scores. He has also supervised the scores for Cecilia Bartoli's albums. Sony Music
