Description:

Christian Benda, a descendant of Georg Anton Benda (1722-1795), a leading Czech-German composer of pre-classical music, and a conductor who has devoted himself to the discovery and performance of his works, will explore the essence of Mozart's and Salieri's works through new research, both in terms of compositional science and technical aspects. The relationship between Mozart and Salieri will be explored. The relationship between Mozart and Salieri, made famous by the movie "Amadeus," is a fabricated story, and it is said that they did not hate each other. Salieri's opera "First the Music, then the Words" and Mozart's opera "The Theater Manager" were written in 1786 by Joseph II, who ordered an opera with the same content to be composed and performed by the Singspiel Opera Company. Mozart also wrote a variation for piano based on the theme of an aria from Salieri's opera "The Venetian Subscription City. Salieri may have been envious and jealous of Mozart's talent, but at the same time he recognized his exceptional talent. The notable piece on this album is the cantata "On the Restoration of Ophelia's Health"! This piece is based on the libretto of an opera by Da Ponte for the English soprano Nancy Straith (1765-1817), with the first movement by Salieri, the second movement by Mozart, and the third movement by Alessandro Cornetti, a vocal teacher and composer in Vienna, who lost his voice The score is said to be dedicated to Nancy Straith, who returned to music after losing her voice. The score has been in the collection of the Czech Museum of Music since the 1950s, but was discovered in 2015 by German musicologist and composer Timo Juco Hermann while searching for the score of Salieri's student Antonio Casimir Cartelieri, and was revived and restored in 2016. The work was written for soprano and piano, but here it is recorded for the first time in the world as an orchestral accompaniment version, orchestrated by conductor Cristian Benda. The recording also includes an overture from a rare opera by Salieri and the complete works of Mozart's Symphonies Nos. 35 and 38, and is an excellent showcase of the two leading musicians of the Viennese musical world at that time.
