Passions De L'Ame

Description:

A purification of Austrian Baroque string instruments with a sharp and innovative rhythmic interpretation. The second album for DHM by the up-and-coming period instrument ensemble from Bern, Switzerland. The album is a collection of works for strings by three Austrian Baroque composers, Biber, Fuchs, and Schmelzer. The album focuses on the form "partita" (also called "parte" or "partia" in the album), which in 18th century Germany after J.S. Bach meant "a suite composed with unity by means of a common theme, motif, or emotion. In the 17th century, when the composers of these works were active, it meant "variation. The music in this collection demonstrates a variety of virtuosity, including the brilliant virtuosity of the violin and other string instruments, the interesting resonance of the scordatura (irregular or special tuning), the title elements attached to the works, and the effects of the percussion instruments. After four years of careful preparation, the ensemble "Les Pasion de l'Ame" was formed in Bern by European players with advanced period instrumental skills and historical knowledge. The name of the orchestra is taken from the work "The Theory of Sentiments" written by the philosopher René Descartes in 1649. The leader of the orchestra is Merette Lüthi, a highly acclaimed baroque violinist born in Bern who has performed at many European festivals of ancient music. Members of the ensemble include members of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, a professor at the Antwerp Conservatory, and a professor at the Bern University of the Arts. The ensemble's vivid performances immediately became the talk of the town, and all of the pieces on this album are gorgeously performed, with delightful violin virtuosity. Sony Music
