Leonard Pennario

Description:

Released 10 years after Leonard Penario's death, this is the first box set of all RCA recordings by Penario, a great pianist who continued to support the backbone of American music in the 20th century! No one plays the piano as well as Leonard Penario," was Andru Porter's 1952 comment on Penario, comparing him to Horowitz and other great pianists of the day. Penario began recording for Capitol in that year, and ten years later moved to RCA, where he recorded a series of remarkable albums in a short three-year period. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his death, a boxed set of all of his RCA recordings is now available. The concertos (and concerto works) selected here are masterpieces that convey the essence of Romanticism, such as Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Schumann, and Liszt, which were Penario's forte, and are performed by conductors such as the young Seiji Ozawa and the London Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops under Fiedler, and the unique Leibowitz and the London Symphony. The solo album features the Debussy Debutante, the Piano Concerto On his solo album, his precise and skillful technique in Debussy's complete Preludes and Pieces shines through.Penalio, who was also an outstanding chamber musician, was one of the few pianists Heifetz wanted to perform with in his later years, and his superb ensemble skills are reflected in the rare chamber music recordings with Heifetz and Piatigorsky. The first CD release has been remastered at 24bit/192kHz from the original master tapes. Each disc is enclosed in a paper jacket based on the original LP design and housed in a clamshell box. Includes a 40-page all-color booklet with detailed recording data. <Leonard Penario (piano) was born in Buffalo in 1924. He was born in Buffalo in 1924 and grew up in Los Angeles, where he spent his entire active career. At the age of 12, he performed "Grieg: Piano Concerto" with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra on the recommendation of Eugene Goossens. He later served in the military, and made his official debut on November 17, 1943, performing Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Artur Rodzinski. He was invited by Dimitri Mitropoulos to perform Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 at the "Rachmaninoff Memorial Concert".Penario was also the first pianist other than Rachmaninoff himself to perform Rachmaninoff's "Complete Piano Concertos" and "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
