Classical music performed by France’s national chanson singer, Mireille Mathieu Mireille Mathieu is a female chanson singer who is also popular in Japan; it is said that she has sold over 150 million albums worldwide. She was born on July 22, 1946, as the eldest daughter of a poor family in Avignon. At the age of 19, she moved to Paris and won a television singing contest by performing “Hymn to Love.” Hailed as the reincarnation of Édith Piaf, she made her debut the following year, in 1966, with “The Creed of Love,” composed by Paul Mauriat. Her bob haircut was her trademark, and she performed in Japan three times during the 1970s. In Japan, “Castle in the Sand” was a hit. Even now, at over 70 years old, she remains a national treasure in France and is popular not only there but also throughout Europe, particularly in Germany. Her latest challenge is singing famous classical melodies. Accompanied by a 90-piece orchestra, her unique, straightforward, and sincere power is deeply moving and conveys her “love” for classical music. For some songs, she has written new lyrics. *She has put great effort into recording the songs listed under “Scheduled Tracks” that are written in Western script, and Simon Gibson of Abbey Road Studios (famous for remastering the old EMI recordings released by Warner Classics, among other projects) was brought on as the recording engineer. He took the recordings made in Prague back to Abbey Road Studios for mastering, making this a meticulously crafted album. Sony Music
