Swiss violinist Sebastian Boren, born in 1987, has finally released his third solo album on RCARedSeal: the definitive recording of the quintessential works for unaccompanied violin, the first installment of a complete recording of Bach’s “Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin.” This first volume begins with Partita No. 2, which includes the Chaconne, and pairs it with Sonata No. 3 and Partita No. 3. Playing a modern-style Guadagnini, he employs minimal vibrato in the spirit of early music performance practice while strictly adhering to modern technique. Through his careful attention to tempo, slurs, articulation, and the rhythmic sense of the dance pieces—all executed at a deliberate and satisfying pace—he takes on the challenge of capturing Bach’s spirit.
