Starting with the monumental 1982 recording of Bach's "Suite for Unaccompanied Cello," considered the bible for cellists, followed by the "Cello (Gamba) Sonatas," recorded around the same time, and the memorable album "Simply Baroque," in which he broke new ground with Copeman and his original instrument ensemble ( Yo-Yo Ma has also recorded his favorite cello (a 1712 Stradivari) with gut strings and endpins removed to produce a sound closer to that of the original instrument, and he has teamed up with Pinchas Zukerman for a rare J.C.
