Columbia Records signed an exclusive contract with the Metropolitan Opera from the late 1940s to the early 1950s, from the last days of the SP era to the monaural LP era, and recorded a number of complete operas featuring popular singers from the Met. This 1947 recording of "Boheme" is one of these recordings, and the singers are rich in personality, vividly portraying the characters created by Puccini. Bidou Sayan, born in Brazil to a French family, was the star soprano of the Met. This is a rare opportunity to hear her wonderful singing with the still-young Richard Tucker in a beautiful and fleeting love story, a love that was lit in a Paris attic. Sony Music
