Description:

Yoncy is the frontman/vocalist of the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros. He used the artist name "Frakkur" when he was making experimental electronic music in the early 2000s. At home in Reykjavik, in hotels on tour with Sigur Rós, and later at his partner's house in Boston, he immersed himself in making music with equipment that was still new at the time. Most of the material he produced at that time was thought to have been lost for a long time due to damage to Yonsei's hard drive, but he was able to obtain CD-Rs of the material that he had given to close friends, and this has made it possible to release it as a collection of previously unreleased material over 10 years after its creation. This time, the CD-Rs were released as a collection of previously unreleased sound sources. This release, "2000-2004," is an analog LP version of a digital release last year; 100 copies of FRAKKUR's sound recordings were released as a limited edition at the Nordur og Nidur festival in Sigur Ros in 2017, but this is the first time since then that FRAKKUR's analog work. The earliest recordings included in this collection are from LP1, which contains material made in 2000-2001. These were produced by Yonsei using his first laptop PC (which, due to its ridiculous size, was meant to be a "tank"). (The PC was called "The Tank" for "tank" because of its ridiculous size.) Sampling kalimbas and music boxes, and using the FRUITY LOOPS digital audio workstation, SFTLB is the story of a local Reykjavik resident's unrequited love for straight boys. Yonsey's own way of overcoming unrequited love for a straight boy, and "2002-2003" on LP2 will be a collection of material produced in Yonsey's first home studio. The studio was built in a cupboard in Yonsey's small apartment in Reykjavik (he says it was designed to be put away at night). In the top drawer, he placed a Yamaha RS-7000 with 32 MB of memory, which he named the Gray Machine, and sampled old toys he acquired at the local Goodwill store.Yonsey describes the recordings from this period as "full of dazzling sunlight and pure joyful energy. "The last of the FRAKKUR trilogy, LP3, "2003-2004," was produced in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, during a break from touring with Sigur Ros. It was produced in Cambridge, Mass. Yonsei's partner, Alex Sommers, introduced him to LOGIC, which he combined with a YAMAHA VSS-30 porta-sound keyboard to sample his own voice. He describes the process as improvisational and exciting. FRAKKUR's music is full of experimentation, and this rare glimpse into one aspect of what makes up the music of SIGUR ROS and Yonksy is now available on a 3-disc analog set.
