The long-awaited re-release with additional sound sources for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Georges Sifra (1921-1994), the famous Hungarian pianist known for his superhuman technique and hailed as "a modern-day Liszt"! Born in Budapest in 1921, Georges Sifra became famous from the age of five for his improvisational performances in bars and circuses. He entered the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he studied with Ernee Dohnányi and others. In 1956, after a retrial, he was allowed to go to Vienna, and ended up in London and Paris. This commemorative boxed set, like the one released in 2008 to mark the 15th anniversary of his death, includes all of his studio recordings for EMI and Philips, from the first 25cm LP released upon his arrival in Paris in 1956 to his final session at the Chapelle Saint-Lys in 1986. The box contains all studio recordings for EMI and Philips, from the first 25cm LP released when he arrived in Paris in 1956 to the last session at the Chapelle Saint-Lys in 1986.These three decades cover not only a consistently diverse and thrilling repertoire, a great deal of which is dominated by Liszt and Chopin, but also stunning improvisations, arrangements, and paraphrases that testify to his mastery, imagination, and musicality. 2008 release of test from the French archives In addition to the recordings, new to this collection are the officially released recordings of a 1967 recital recorded for broadcast at the NHK studios and a 1957 live recording of "Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1" under Giulini's direction. Presented in a printed wallet (paper jacket) depicting the original LP artwork, this is another gorgeous release that is a must-have for fans. Although not newly remastered for this release, the album has been mastered using the latest digital equipment in an attempt to reproduce the sound as close to the original master as possible.
