Description:

This is a commemorative box featuring the music for the Ballets Russes, the ballet company that revolutionized music, dance, and the visual arts, in masterful performances and recordings, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Sergei Diaghilev's birth. Ballets Russes, the ballet company that revolutionized music, dance, and the visual arts, was founded in 1909 by Russian-born artistic producer Sergei Diaghilev at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris. Innovative and flamboyant, it brought together the most talented composers, dancers, choreographers, and designers with a genius for fostering creativity and energizing audiences. Emblematic of the influence of the Ballets Russes was the 1913 premiere of Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring. It caused an infamous scandal, but also changed the course of musical history. This 22-CD set traces the path of the troupe's existence over two decades, a turbulent but artistically rich period, and includes all of the ballet music written for the Ballets Russes. Covering groundbreaking works and rarities, listeners will rediscover numerous masterpieces and groundbreaking interpretations by renowned performers of the 78rpm SP, LP, and digital eras. #1Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1929): Diaghilev was an impresario who changed the history of music; March 31, 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Diaghilev, the flamboyant, visionary, and influential impresario who founded the legendary Ballets Russes.Diaghilev was born near Novgorod in northwestern Russia and grew up in the artistic environment of Perm. He enrolled in the law department of the University of Petersburg, but instead of attending, he decided to become an artist and studied voice and composition, frequently attending concerts at the Mariinsky Theater and other venues. As a student, he was appointed to a special commission in 1899 but was expelled, but in 1905 he decided to pursue his idea of cultural entrepreneurship, and in 1906 he promoted Russian art and sculpture at the Salon d'Automne in Paris, the cultural capital of the world in the early 20th century. From then on, he continued to work in Paris. The following year, he gave concerts with Russian artists, including composers Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff, and Glazunov, and singers Shaliapin and Feria Litvinne; in 1907, he gave a concert of his "Piano Concerto No. 2" with Rachmaninoff himself on piano; in 1908, at the Paris Opera In 1908, he staged Mussorgsky's opera "Boris Godunov" with Shaliapin in the leading role. The design was by Leon Bakst and Alexandre Benoit, two Russian artists who became closely associated with the Ballets Russes, which Diaghilev founded in Paris in 1909.(1/3) Warner Music Japan
