Leonskaya, who first attracted the world's attention with her duo with Richter, still enjoys the respect of many musicians in her native Russia and in Europe. She was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1945, and studied at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1978, he defected from the Soviet Union to Vienna, Austria. She is an honorary member of the Wiener Konzerthaus, and in 2006 was awarded the Order of the Cross of Honor for Science and Arts, the highest decoration for services to Austrian culture, and in 2003 the "Priestess of the Arts" award, the highest honor given to an artist, from Tbilisi, Georgia. She tries to be true to herself and her music, and in doing so, she follows in the footsteps of the great Russian musicians of the Soviet era, such as Oistrakh, Richter, and Girelis, who, despite difficult political situations, always elevated themselves, as they never strayed from the essence of their music, Driven by her own desire, her own passion, and her own intellect, she aspires to heights that only the great masters could reach.Up to now, Leonskaya has not recorded Mozart except for the two-piano version of "Mozart: Piano Sonata" by Grieg, which he recorded with Richter in 1993. This seems to have been a daring avoidance due to his teacher Richter's strict teachings on Mozart performance, and he dared to focus on the grand romantic repertoire, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich. In 2018-2019, however, it was Mozart that took the performance to an even higher level, and the performance of the concert in Wigmore Hall was "a kaleidoscopic Mozart with a lifetime of wisdom and experience behind it," and "a fascinating space that evokes the audience's imagination with a whirlwind of fantasy." It has received rave reviews. There is nothing more difficult than playing a piece written for the early fortepiano on a modern piano, but Leonskaya's exquisite, delicate, thread-like touch is perfect without losing a single detail. The pedaling is perfectly pure without losing any detail, and the silky melodies are played in varying contrasts in a variety of tonalities, infused with astonishing clarity and haunting melancholy.
