This new work by Nigel Kennedy is inspired by Gershwin's work with his own non-genre arrangements and is acoustic, without drums or other rhythm instruments. It was Kennedy's club stage debut at age 14, with Django Reinhardt's great swinging violin partner, Stefan Grappelli. This was the moment in Kennedy's life when he developed his rhythmic daring. On this album he recalls it and incorporates it into this session as an importance, much like Gershwin introduced that daring rhythm at the time. Rhapsody in Blue" is only two and a half minutes long, but its timeless motifs are a mix of faint chords and complex rhythms, with piano improvisations and a moderate treatment of jazz ambiguity.Of course, all of the songs respect all the originals, but his trademark fast string melodies are also in full swing!
