Renaud Capuçon, who has established himself as a top violinist, partners David Fray, who is devoted to Bach's works, in this Bach masterpiece. The harpsichord, which until then had been treated as an accompaniment instrument, was positioned as a solo instrument in this group of Bach's works, which established a duet style between a melody instrument and a keyboard instrument in music history. Renaud and David have selected four pieces from a total of six works. In recent years, it has become common practice to perform Bach using original instruments or period technique. Renaud Capuçon's repertoire is based on Romantic and contemporary music, but here he dares to play Bach on a modern instrument and with modern technique. Renaud has recorded "Bach: Violin Concertos" once, and as in that recording, the movement is fast and powerful, using all of his bowing. The slow movement is traced with fine, precise lines. A single phrase with a sense of urgency, with a single bow, but with strength and weakness within the bow.
