Damrau sings the three Tudor queens in Donizetti's operas at their emotional best! Donizetti's "Queen Trilogy" consists of three works, Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, and Robert Devereux. Although the protagonists are Anne Boleyn (Anna Bolena), second wife of Henry VIII and birth mother of Elizabeth I, Mary Stuart (Maria Stuarda), Queen of Scots, and Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex (Robert Devereux), the real hero is the man who favored Elizabeth I. This time it is soprano Deanna Damrau who sings these three queens to perfection. The album includes the final scene, an important climax of the three productions. Damrau sings with dignity at times, and at other times with anger and pleading. Her wide range of emotional expression makes us realize that the main characters are women before they are kings, and she beautifully portrays them as "women in the flesh.
