Conductor Laurence Ekilbey and the Insula Orchestra take this literally and present a program centered on the theme of “mysterious magic” through their unique selection of pieces. Drawing on these poetic and comical melodies, duets, and ensembles—and not just for classical music enthusiasts but for a wide range of audiences—the album is crafted into an even more enchanting musical experience. In particular, *The Magic Flute*, Mozart’s final opera composed in 1791, serves as the cornerstone of this magic. It features a mysterious trumpet, a variety of enchanting animals, the Queen of the Night, and other fantastical elements found in no other Mozart opera—a wondrous fairy tale unlike any other. Furthermore, interspersed with music from *The Marriage of Figaro*, *Don Giovanni*, *Bastien and Bastienne*, and pantomime pieces, a cabaret-style show brimming with Mozart’s magical tricks unfolds. This concert, presented in a staged format in late January 2020 following the recording sessions for this CD, was described as follows: “Inspired by Mozart’s profound and joyful music, the show—featuring all the musicians, choreographers, and others—utilized magical artistic expression, creating scenes imbued with fantasy and poetry that left a lasting impression.” “Ekilbey is an intelligent and powerful conductor with profound psychological insight.
