Accompanied on piano by Alexandre Tharaud and soprano Sabine Douvielle's nuanced voice, this is a collection of French songs written in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. Douvielle and Tharaud have carefully crafted a program of songs about "love," "battle," and "death" from songs by Fauré, Poulenc, Ravel, Debussy, and other leading composers of the period. The program includes a wide variety of songs that the two composers were eager to feature, such as Faure's "Chanson d'amour" (the title of the album) and Poulenc's "L'amour de l'amour," as well as Ravel's "Five Greek Folk Songs" and Debussy's "L'Ode to a Forgotten Song," a series of songs that the two composers were very eager to perform. This album is a collection of songs that Douvielle and Tharaud wanted to feature in this concert, and it is filled with the "feelings they want to express now". Douvielle's soft and nuanced voice not only expresses the delicate atmosphere of the French songs, but Taraud's piano accompanies her perfectly, singing the melodies sometimes softly, sometimes freely. The individual songs were chosen not only for their wide repertoire, but also for their diversity and surprise.Debussy and Ravel are must-haves for me, Fauré is a natural choice as a spiritual father, and Poulenc offers something more spicy and zesty. The meanings of the tones produced by Tharaud's piano vary from conversation, melancholy, and rebellion.
