Chopin (1810-1849)
Description:
Rafael Orozco was born in 1946 in Córdoba, Spain, where his father, a teacher at the local conservatory, and his aunt taught him how to play the piano. He studied at the Conservatory of Madrid with Jose Cubilles and others, attended master classes with Guido Agosti at the Chigiana Conservatory, studied with Alexis Weissenberg, and then in London with Guido Agosti. He began his musical career and established his reputation by performing with Karajan, Giulini, Maazel, Barenboim, Muti, Chailly, and others. He played piano in Ken Russell's famous film "Lovers' Tune/Pathetique. Orozco is especially highly regarded in Spain as one of the great pianists, and in 1986 he was presented with a gold medal by the city of Córdoba, his birthplace, and awarded the title of Hijo Predilecto (Favourite Son). He died of AIDS in April 1996. Orozco's interpretation of Chopin is revelatory and poetic, not only in the Préludes but also in the Etudes.Remastered at 24bit/192kHz from the original 2020 master tapes, this album captures a rare occurrence of a Spanish pianist tackling two of Chopin's most iconic works that distill the essence of Romanticism. This is a rare 20th century pianist's record of impeccable artistry not found in recent stars. First CD release. Warner Music Japan
