Andrzejewski’s Distinctive and Creative Approach to Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier Piotr Anderszewski takes a distinctive and creative approach to Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier. Rather than recording all 48 preludes and fugues, he focuses on 12 pairings from Book II. “I decided to organize the works into a sequence based on my own subjective choices—sometimes based on significant relationships, and sometimes on contrasts. The idea behind this specific order is to create a sense of drama that suggests a cycle. The 12 characters converse with one another and mirror each other,” says Anderszewski. By making full use of the modern piano’s capabilities, Anderzewski actively distinguishes the character of each piece. The soft tones, as if shrouded in a mysterious veil; the dramatic intensity at brisk tempos that heightens the musical tension; and the sounds that rise gently—all are indescribably beautiful. Through a carefully curated selection and sequence of pieces that allow the listener to fully appreciate the flow of the entire program, the music is presented in sweeping phrases, resulting in a Bach performance brimming with romantic sentiment and a rich array of emotions.
