Description:
Scherest brings Boltkevich’s rich melodies to life with supple artistry Sergei Boltkevich (1877–1952): Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and the Leipzig Conservatory, and was primarily active in Vienna. His compositional style was rooted in Chopin and Liszt, incorporating elements of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Russian folk songs. He was a composer who remained unaffected by the new musical trends of the 20th century. Anna Sherest (piano), born in 1983: Originally from Ukraine. Currently resides in New York. After studying at the Kharkiv Specialized Music School, she studied under Jerome Lowenthal at The Juilliard School. She is known for recording the complete works for piano and orchestra by Anton Rubinstein with the world-renowned conductor Neeme Järvi. She performs actively as a duo with her husband, pianist Dmitri Sherest. Neeme Järvi (Conductor): Born in Estonia in 1937. He studied under Mravinsky at the Leningrad Conservatory. He has served as music director and chief conductor for orchestras around the world, including the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. In Japan, he also served as guest chief conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Estonian National Symphony Orchestra: Founded in 1926 as a string trio. Initially performing in a small ensemble, the orchestra expanded its membership in 1950 and began presenting a diverse repertoire. Neeme Järvi served as its chief conductor on two occasions. Ukraine has produced many outstanding musicians, such as Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, and Richter, and Volodymyr Bortkiewicz is one of them. Slightly different from European music, a somewhat exotic atmosphere envelops the entire album. Since the concerto with Järvi was recorded live, the momentum of the music comes across directly. Although the piano solo tracks were recorded in a studio, they are full of a live feel, keeping the listener fully engaged throughout. Although the recording dates are spread out, the album is well-organized and is a well-conceived project. Tobu Shoji Co., Ltd.
