Rakim is an American rapper best known as part of the legendary rap duo Eric B. & Rakim. He is a transformative figure in Hip Hop as he has raised the art of MCing to unprecedented heights. Rakim pioneered the use of internal and multisyllabic rhymes, and was one of the first artists to show the possibility of writing well-crafted lyrics and incorporating clever word choice and metaphors at a time when improvisational styles and simple rhyme patterns were the norm. He is also credited with creating the overall shift from the simplicity of the old school to a more complex flow.
