Petr Petková, a Mahler specialist, sings solo. Chamber version of Mahler's "Ode to the Earth" arranged by Schoenberg-Rein! In October 2017, conductor Petr Altrichter, who was also the focus of a tour of Japan with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, will be joined by the Schoenberg Chamber Orchestra and Schoenberg-Reiner Rein for a chamber version of Mahler's "Ode to the Earth". The soloists will sing Mahler's songs. The soloists are mezzo-soprano Dagmar Petsková, who is well known for her recordings of Mahler's songs, and tenor Richard Zamek, who has been remarkably active in recent years. Originally composed as a symphony, "Song of the Earth" is a pessimistic aesthetic work that was originally intended to be the 9th symphony, but was not made into a symphony to avoid the connection of "9th" to death. The chamber version by Schoenberg-Leen follows Mahler's orchestration almost exactly, with all the original voices distributed among the 13 players without missing a single part.The chamber music version is different from the orchestral manuscript and is filled with the charm of a new "Song of the Earth".
