Following the worldwide success of Respighi's "Roman Trilogy" (RCHSA5261/CHSA5261), "English Music for Strings" (RCHSA5264/CHSA5264) has also made a great sensation (Record Art "Special Mention", Gramophone Magazine "Editor's Choice", etc.). ), John Wilson is one of the hottest conductors in the world today. The ballet "Le Loup" by Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), one of the most famous French composers of the late 20th century, was commissioned by Roland Petit's dance company. It was first performed in Paris in March 1953. There are few recordings of this work, and this is the first time it has been recorded by an orchestra outside of France.The coupling also includes a world premiere recording of an orchestral accompaniment version of three works for woodwinds written in the 1940s for the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and orchestrated by Kenneth Hesketh (b.1968), a British composer also known for his "Mask" for wind band. The soloists include the genius Adam Walker, who has been well received on the new recording "Belle Epoque" (RCHSA5282/CHSA5282) with the Orsino Ensemble, as well as such British virtuosos as Juliana Koch, principal of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Jonathan Davis, principal of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
