John Wilson, conductor, arranger, and specialist in light music and American music, who has built an outstanding reputation with Chandos for his orchestral works by Richard Rodney Bennett and Aaron Copland, now embarks on a new series, Erich Wolfgang Korngold's orchestral works! Born in Brun (now the Czech Republic) in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Korngold was active in Austria and the United States, and is known as a composer of film music. His only symphony, "Symphony in F-sharp," written "in memory of Franklin Delano Roosevelt," and "Theme and Variations" and "Straussiana," commissioned by the American School Orchestra Association." The "Sinfonia of London" was founded in 1955 as a professional orchestra for film music and recording sessions, and its name has been credited on over 300 films and numerous recordings.In 2018, John Wilson reunited Sinfonia of London and relaunched it with this Korngold album.
