Andruw Davies with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus! Sir Andreu Davis, the master of British music, who has taken over the baton from the late Richard Hickox as "the evangelist of British music" and has created new masterpieces of British music including Elgar, Dilius, Holst, and Bax, is back with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. The second volume of this magnificent collection of the works of Arthur Bliss (1891-1975), presented with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, is now available. The British composer studied under Stanford, was greatly influenced by Elgar, and was even named Elgar's successor. Following his choral symphony "Heroes of the Morning" (CHSA 5159), this second volume includes "The Beatitudes," a cantata that premiered with Britten's "War Requiem" when Coventry Cathedral was rebuilt in 1962, but has not received much publicity. The Beatitudes", a cantata that premiered with Britten's "War Requiem" when Britten rebuilt the cathedral.This is a cantata based on the nine teachings of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew (also known in Japan by the Japanese title "Eight Blessings," but here it is called "Nine Blessings" or "True Blessings and Nine Edges" because it includes the "Ninth Beatitude" of Chapter 5, Verse 11), a powerful contrast, This magnificent work, with its intense contrasts, magnificent orchestration, and passionate solo and choral singing, is brought to life in Chandos surround sound. The inclusion of the British national anthem, "God Bless the Queen," arranged by Bliss for full orchestra and choir, is also a welcome bonus. Tokyo M-Plus
