The third installment of the Holst series, featuring the orchestral works of Gustav Holst (1874-1934), the late British music evangelist Richard Hickox, who passed away in 2009. The third installment of the Holst series will be performed by the late Hickox's successor, British virtuoso Andru Davis. Following "Vol. 2" (CHSA 5086), which included "The Planets" and "Japanese Suite," "Vol. 3" couples two large-scale works, "Choral Symphony No. 1" and "The Mysterious Trumpeter. Composed between 1923 and 1924 after the completion of his masterpiece "The Planets" and the failure of the premiere of his opera "The Most Stupid Man Ever", "Choral Symphony No. 1" is a spectacle of chorus and orchestra.Grammy-nominated soprano Susan Gritton's voice is outstanding in "The Mystic Trumpeter," based on a Walt Whitman poem!
