Description:
Former Principal of the London Symphony Orchestra, Adam Walker! Exploring the music of British composers! Former principal flutist of the London Symphony Orchestra, Adam Walker, explores the music of British composers with pianist Hugh Watkins in this diverse and fascinating disc! Adam Walker was appointed principal flutist of the London Symphony Orchestra at the age of 21, soon after graduating with honors from the Royal Academy of Music in 2009, and has since received the MIDEM Classical Outstanding Young Artist Award, the Borletti-Buitoni Foundation Award, the Royal Philharmonic He has received the MIDEM Classical Outstanding Young Artist Award, the Borletti-Buitoni Foundation Award, and the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award (nomination). She is also a visiting professor at the Royal College of Music in England, and pursues a wide range of flute repertoire, from French Baroque to contemporary new commissions, and continues a vigorous performance career with orchestra, solo recitals, and chamber music. Vaughan Williams' "Ballet Suite," commissioned by French flute virtuoso Louis Fleury (who premiered Debussy's "Silanx"), is a neoclassical work in the form of an 18th century French dance. Bax's "Four Pieces" rescues music from a ballet conceived for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and never realized.Lennox Berkley's "Sonatina" was originally written for recorder, but James Galway's performance of the piece established it in the flute repertoire. Howard Ferguson's "Three Sketches," composed intermittently over a period of more than 20 years, features a Hindu melody in the third piece. Sonatas by York Bowen and William Olwyn round out this varied and engaging program. Tokyo M-Plus
