The world's best young ensemble Doric String Quartet's fourth Haydn! The Doric Quartet, a British ensemble that won the first prize at the 6th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and was acclaimed as "one of the finest young string quartets" by Gramophone magazine, has been touted by Chandos as the main artists of the next generation. Following the "Solar Quartets" (CHAN10831), "Erdödy Quartets" (CHAN10886), and "Third Tosto Quartet" (CHAN10971), Haydn's fourth quartet is the "Russian Quartet" composed in 1781 and dedicated to Grand Duke Paul of Russia (later Emperor Pavel I of Russia). The set laid the foundation for the classical string quartet and became Mozart's favorite, and the second piece, "Jest" (Hob. III-38), was also performed during his 2019 tour of Japan.
