Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, who has gained popularity as one of the world's foremost embodiments of French pianism and now holds a dominant position in the performance and recording of Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, and other classical works, has undertaken a project to record all of Haydn's piano sonatas. This recording project, which explores Haydn's diverse styles and expressions and has been well received for the clear and vivid tone of the YAMAHA CFX piano and the warm acoustic sound of the Potton Hall, has been awarded "Editor's Choice" by Gramophone magazine (UK) and "Instrumental Choice" by BBC Music Magazine (UK). In the eighth volume of the series, the young Haydn, who left the boys' choir of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna to pursue a career as a harpsichord teacher, presents three short and easy early sonatas (Nos. 5-7), which he probably wrote for his students, and two large sonatas (Nos. 51 and 59) written some 20 years later.
