In the early 20th century, when opera was so dominant in Italy that it would not be an exaggeration to call it an era of operatic tyranny, Casella achieved success as a composer of orchestral music.Italy, Op.11, composed with the aim of becoming the "Albenis of Spain" in Italy; Introduction, Chorale and March, Op.57, a work for woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano and double bass, completed in 1935, which shows the influence of Stravinsky; and Sinfonia (Symphony No.3), a major work of Casella's late period, composed for the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and premiered in March 1941. The "Sinfonia (Symphony No. 3)," composed for the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and premiered in March 1941, is one of Casella's late great works. This orchestral work by Casella, who studied composition with Ravel and Enesco at the Conservatoire de Paris in France on Martucci's recommendation, was composed for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the company.
