Sophie Yates, who studied with Ruth Dyson and Robert Woolley in England and Bob van Asperen in the Netherlands, began her international career by winning an international competition at the Boston Festival of Ancient Music. Following her performance of Claude-Bénigne Barbatre's (1727-1799) "Clavissants (1759)" (CHAN 0777), Yates will be playing the long-awaited great Bach. A collection of arrangements from the music of Vivaldi and the Marcello brothers!The music and style of 18th century Italy, which greatly influenced J.S. Bach, and the "Concertos" of three Italian composers of the same generation, Antonio Vivaldi, Alessandro Marcello and Benedetto Marcello.Venice played a central role in the early Baroque period, and Bach took on the difficult theme of expressing the sound of the violin there on a keyboard instrument. The influence of J.S. Bach's Italian music, which continues in the "Italian Concerto," as well as his masterful compositional and arranging techniques, will be interpreted by the brilliant British female harpsichordist Sophie Yeats.
