Description:
Neil Young is a legendary and isolated figure in the rock scene. He continues to be active in a series of reissues of his original albums, a live archive series that unravels rare and previously unreleased live recordings, and the release of new albums, and now he has delivered a new treasure, the latest in his live archive series. This is the previously unreleased "TUSCALOOSA," a live recording of a February 5, 1973 performance at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, under the name Neil Young & the Stray Gators. Between his solo tours and tours with Crazy Horse, Neil Young toured with the Stray Gators from 1971 to 1973 to pursue the sound style he was pursuing at the time. The Stray Gators, consisting of Tim Drummond (b), Kenny Betley (dr), Jack Nitsche (piano), and Ben Keith (steel guitar), also participated in the recording of Neil's 1972 masterpiece "Harvest", and later recorded the live album The Stray Gators also participated in the recording of Neil's masterpiece "Harvest" in 1972, and can be heard on the live album "Time Fades Away" released in 1973.This rare and previously unreleased live archive album, "TUSCALOOSA," includes the song "Here We Are In The Years" from Neil's seminal debut album, "NEIL YOUNG," and classic tracks from his most successful albums of his early career, "AFTER THE GOLDRUSH" (1970) and "HARVEST" (1972), which were the most successful albums of Neil's early career. TUSCALOOSA" also includes a breathtaking version of the title track from "TIME FADES AWAY" (released in 1973), Neil's first live album, and "TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT" (released two years after this show, a historic classic). The live versions of the songs "New Mama" and "Lookout Joe" were also included in the historic masterpiece "TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT" released two years later. Incidentally, the first two songs ("Here We Are in The Years" and "After The Gold Rush") are Neil's solo performances, with Stray Gators joining him on "Out On Te Weekend".The album was produced by Neil Young and Elliott Mather, who has worked on many of his recordings, mixed by John Hanlon, and mastered by Chris Bellman, and carefully mastered from the original analog tapes. The sound is surprisingly vivid, and the high quality of the sound makes you feel as if you were there in person. In addition, the photographs used on the packaging were taken by Joel Bernstein.
