Formed in Dundee, Scotland in 1979, The Associates, a duo consisting of Billy Mackenzie and Alan Rankin, have been influenced by a diverse range of music and styles, from art rock, disco and glam rock to minimalism and cabaret music. The duo has developed a unique pop style that draws on influences from a wide variety of music and styles, including art rock, disco, glam rock, minimalism, cabaret music, and more. Their music was post-punk, new wave, and synth-pop in style, and attracted many music fans in the 1980s. Their second studio album, "SULK," was released in 1982. This album, which could be called the culmination of their sound, combining the new romantic synth-pop sound with dark and surreal cabaret elements, reached the top 10 of the UK album charts and was named "Album of the Year" by Melody Maker magazine. In fact, Billy McKenzie, vocalist of THE ASSOCIATES, who chose to leave this world in 1997, said of the album before his death: "'SULK' is a true liberation. SULK" was a true liberation. The essence of who I am as I am is reflected here.
