Jeremy Denk, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra

Description:

A live recording by the gifted American pianist Jeremy Denk, born in North Carolina in 1970, acclaimed for his "delight in ignoring Mozart's purist notions...as if a new masterpiece were at hand. With a repertoire ranging from Bach to contemporary music, Denk has not only combined Bach's "Goltberg Variations," contemporary American works, and Ligeti and Beethoven, but also performed music from 700 years on the piano, from Renaissance songs to contemporary piano works, a timeless The album is a surprise to the audience, as it combines a timeless and interesting selection of music from 700 years of piano music, ranging from Renaissance songs to contemporary piano works. In this album, he plays "Mozart: Piano Concerto" with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, but he departs from the venerable traditional performance and finds the composer as a rock star of Mozart's time. Here he adds pleasant embellishments to the melody and presents a light Mozart on the modern piano, using a crisp touch modeled after period technique. His sweet singing in the second movement of No. 20 with its lyrical melody is also exquisite.Despite the substantial style of the piece, the 25th, which is not often performed, is also performed with plenty of time to spare. Denk states, "When I write these words... the world that used to be is gone, and the world of Pandemic is somewhat settled. As I write these words... the world as it once was has vanished, the world of pandemics has somewhat settled down. And as we keep saying, we must live with uncertainty. Piano Concerto No. 25, K. 503, seemed to me to be one of the key messages of this wonderful concerto, very different from the other concertos and full of love by its author. This may be the reason why this piece is less popular among piano concertos, by virtue of its less obvious melody than other concertos. I feel that Mozart is telling you to step away from your previous performances and listen more deeply, to understand that the music is more than a fascinating, direction-changing It makes you think a lot about the work, about ideas that don't surface, about musical power, and about the definition of music. The 20th concerto in D minor, K. 466, is much more famous and popular than K. 503.This is partly because it promises to be, but if K.503's suggestion of grandiose specific chords undermines it, K.466 takes the opposite approach. It begins with chords and statements, distilled anxieties that accumulate into angry outbursts. It is a purer tragedy, and a clearer story. Denk is Rondo in A minor, K.511, but Mozart wrote so many sad songs in his short life. It is about giving voice to regrets of all kinds, big and small. But in the case of this piece, it can be said to be about the nature of melancholy." Warner Music Japan
