Rachael & Vilray

Rachel Price (vo) and guitarist/singer/composer Ville Rey of the Lake Street Dive, a group of multi-instrumentalists based on black music such as soul and funk, but also borderless and non-genre. Vilray is a guitarist/singer/composer. The duo project "Rachel & Villey" was born when the two, who were actually alumni of the same music conservatory, reunited after 10 years. Their debut album, "RACHAEL & VILRAY" (2019), is released on the prestigious Nonesuch Records, which has been releasing high-quality new recordings of rock, jazz, country, and world music in the roots music tradition. The nostalgia of the nostalgic jazz vocal records of the 30s and 40s revived in the modern age, and the warmth and freshness of the duo's performance were highly appreciated by many discerning listeners, musicians, and critics. In Japan, Haruomi Hosono was the first to air the song on his radio program "Daisy Holiday.Keisuke Kuwata also aired it twice on his radio program "Yasashii yasobi" (I bought it at TOWER RECORDS. Thank you very much for your comment "I bought it at TOWER RECORDS"). The album was not released in Japan even at Tower Records (only imported copies were distributed. In other words, non-promotion!) In 2022, the long-awaited second album, "The Last of the Jazz Vocalists," was released and became an unprecedentedly long-seller as a new jazz vocal album. In 2022, the long-awaited second album arrived. The nostalgic and warm mood of the previous album is maintained, but the production with more sounds in the background adds color, and the two voices of the man and woman stand out even more with a stylish piano/organ and a five-member horn section with a warm touch. The recording was done in a live studio format, and the analog-like sound quality is so pleasing that you can clearly see the swingy groove of the two musicians' playing grow stronger as they play with each other. What makes this album different from the usual jazz vocal albums is that it is not a reprise of jazz standards, but 11 original compositions by Vilray except for (12).Inheriting the songworld of jazz and blues that has been passed down from generation to generation, this is a wonderful collection of songs that will be added to the pages of the new Great American Songbook. Villey has the following to say about the album There is a lyric on the album that seems to sum up the condition of the musicians who made this album: "We've all heard the legends. Each of us has eagerly absorbed the temple-lined works of the jazz giants that have inspired and characterized the music of this album. If our own original compositions shed any light, the majority of that light is simply a reflection of the brilliance of past compositions we admire. ...Here's to our lovable humility!
