TOSSY SPIVAKOVSKY

Description:

World premiere of the world's most important concerto recordings by Spivakovsky, acclaimed as one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century, including the astonishing "Chaconne with Bach Bow"! The album is the first time in the world that Spivakovsky, one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century, has recorded all of his concerto recordings, including the astonishing Bach Bow Chaconne. This is a 4-CD set of world premiere recordings by the well-known violinist Spivakovsky! The collection features eight violin concertos, mostly with the New York Philharmonic, and Bach's "Chaconne. The "Chaconne" is played with the so-called Bach bow, the VEGA BACH Bow! This bow was invented to hold all four strings at once during the revival of ancient music, and it is now considered to be different from historical fact. It is not difficult to imagine that Spivakovsky played with this bow with a special feeling for Bach, who had been a special presence in his life since childhood. Spivakovsky was born in Odessa in 1906. His family soon moved to Berlin, where he emerged as a violinist from childhood. He formed a duo with his brother Jascha, a pianist, and performed in Europe, and at the age of 18 he was recognized by Furtwängler (!) as concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic. In 1930, he formed a trio with cellist Edmund Kurz and toured Australia in 1933. This led to an invitation to give a master class at the University of Melbourne and a stay in Australia. In 1940, he emigrated to the U.S. and made his New York debut. In 1943, he gave the American premiere of Bartók's Second Concerto with the Cleveland Orchestra under Rosinski. The performance of Bartók's Second Concerto with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Rosinski on this album is a rare performance of the same work from just after that year. The American reputation of the violinist was extremely high, and he was praised as "one of the best violinists of the 20th century," and his high technique and rich musicality were always praised. The conductors who performed with the New York Philharmonic in the concerto are not limited to those on this album, but include Walter, Bernstein, Munsch, Klemperer, Montoux, Reinsdorf, Seiji Ozawa, Mitropoulos, and many others. In his later years, he was a professor at the Juilliard School, where he died on July 20, 1998, at the age of 91. King International
