Wilco's thirteenth studio album, "Cousin," the latest in a new series of releases with Welsh female artist=Kate Le Bon as producer. Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy says, "I'm a cousin to the world. I don't feel connected by blood, but maybe we got married and became cousins," he confides. Produced by Welsh artist Kate Le Bon, "Cousin" is Wilco's first work with an outside producer since "Sky Blue Sky". Le Bon's influence can be heard in the saxophone, cheap Japanese guitar, and cinematic, New Wave-style drum machine. The result is Wilco's most pointed and exciting album, and truly new ground for the band. After years of admiring each other's work, Wilco and Le Bon first met at Wilco's Solid Sound Festival in 2019. There, Tweedy immediately struck a chord and invited Le Bon to the band's Chicago studio, The Loft, in 2022 to begin work on "Cousin".Le Bon encouraged the band to take risks, divert established strengths, and defy habit. Le Bon said, "The great thing about Wilco is that they can be anything. They are so transformative, and there is a thread of authenticity that flows through everything they do, no matter what genre or feel of the record. Not many bands in their successful careers have been able to change things so profoundly." Tweedy says, "Kate is very skeptical of emotion, but she doesn't doubt the human connection. From Le Bon's direction, "Cousin" has evolved into something more chilling and nightmarish than anything Wilco has made before, while maintaining Tweedy's earnest lyrics and voice.
